Legoland Florida Pirate Island Hotel Guide and Review

Spoiler alert: We LOVED Legoland Florida Pirate Island Hotel so much we are already planning a return trip.  Seriously, even Parks and I had a LOT of fun, maybe even more fun than the kids did. There is so much fun happening at the Legoland Pirate Island hotel no matter the time of day. Plus you walk outside and you are just 130 kid steps to the entrance of the LEGOLAND Florida 150-acre theme park.

Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Florida Guide and Review

Pulling into the Legoland resort property you greeted at the hotel by 34-foot LEGO pirate ship, which is made of Duplo bricks, more than 32,000!  There are mist breathing dragons and massive Lego Mini figures on the front of the Legoland Florida hotel.  My car of kids erupted with screams and cheer as we rounded the corner and were greeted at the entrance by smiling staff members. The inside of the Legoland Florida hotel is decorated with more than 1.6 million LEGO bricks, which make up more than 600 models throughout the hotel.  The lobby of the hotel includes a pirate island play area with thousands of LEGO bricks.

The convenience and ease of having small kids on a vacation and it being fun is priceless.  My family didn’t stop laughing or smiling during our entire visit to Legoland Pirate Island Hotel and we want your family to experience the Legoland fun too!

When did Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Open?

Legoland Pirate Island Hotel opened in June 2020 and is the ultimate destination for Lego lovers of all ages.  Opening a new Legoland Hotel during a global pandemic is no easy feat, but the team of staff at Legoland Florida Pirate Island Hotel understood parents concerns about COVID 19 safety and health and take precautions to keep the hotel clean and safe for all!

Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Vs. Other Legoland Hotel Review

There are three hotel options for Legoland Florida - Pirate Island Hotel, Legoland Hotel, & Beach Retreat.  Legoland Hotel and Pirate Island Hotel are connected on the main property that is connected to the theme park and water park.  Legoland Pirate Island Hotel is the newest place to stay at Legoland Resort and where my family stayed during our trip. All of the rooms are pirate themed. The rooms are slightly more expensive than the Legoland Hotel.

At the Legoland Hotel your family can choose from the following themed rooms:  Lego Ninjago, adventure rooms, kingdom rooms, Lego friends rooms, or Lego Movie rooms!  Legoland Hotel is attached to the Pirate Island Hotel.

The Legoland Beach Retreat is a village style layout with beach themed bungalows.  It comes with patios and playgrounds and looks out over picturesque views of Lake Dexter.  This hotel option only operates on a seasonal calendar, so depending on when you are planning a visit this may be an option for your family!

Legoland Florida Hotel Room Review

The standard room was perfect for my family and sleeps 5!  The room boasts the cutest bunk beds and trundle for our 3 kids. The bunk bed and trundle spaces comes with their own TV and Lego table. The adults have their own area and TV set up too and it felt totally separate from the kids even though its all one space in the hotel rooms.

But the real draw of the room is the creative and fun in-room treasure hunt / scavenger hunt  that awaits upon getting to your Pirate-themed room. The boys were thrilled with the goodies and it was such a fun surprise every day.  These fully-themed rooms  are so well decorated and geared towards families of young children.

If your family is too large for the standard room size there are suites available that sleep up to 7. The suites have a lake view, two bedrooms, a king sized bed, a lounge area with sofa and a kids own sleeping area with entertainment center, bunk bed and pull out trundle.  The suite cost is double the standard room.

Also, there are so many activities in the resort and with so many open play areas throughout the resort we were only in the room to shower and sleep.   I have no complaints about the room at all.

How Many Days Should My Family Stay at Legoland Pirate Island Hotel?

Having 3-4 days at the Legoland Hotel would be my recommendation. There are SO many amazing amenities to enjoy on resort that you will want to take advantage of that you just will not have time to experience if you are there for less than 3 days.

With most packages and booking far enough in advance you will likely be able to get a night free!  Check the website for current deals and promotions offered to maximize time!  There is plenty to do at the Legoland hotel and each day will be packed full of fun!

Here is an example of a itinerary to maximize Legoland Hotel stay:

Determining the ideal length of stay at LEGOLAND Florida Resort depends on several factors, including your family's preferences, the age of your children, and the attractions you wish to experience. However, a general recommendation would be to plan for at least two to three days to fully enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

Here's a breakdown of factors to consider when planning your stay:

  1. Number of Theme Parks: LEGOLAND Florida Resort consists of multiple theme parks, including LEGOLAND Park, LEGOLAND Water Park, and LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel. Each park offers a unique experience, so you'll want to allocate time for each.

  2. Age of Children: Younger children may tire more quickly, so you might want to plan shorter days or take breaks throughout the day. Additionally, some attractions may have height or age restrictions, which could affect your itinerary.

  3. Additional Activities: Apart from the theme parks, LEGOLAND Florida Resort offers other activities such as character meet-and-greets, shows, and dining experiences. Factor in time for these activities to enhance your overall experience.

  4. Accommodation: If you're staying at the LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel or another nearby hotel, you might want to consider spending some time enjoying the hotel amenities, such as swimming pools or evening entertainment.

  5. Travel Time: Consider the time it takes to travel to and from the resort, as well as any potential jet lag if you're traveling from afar.

Based on these considerations, here's a sample itinerary for a three-day stay:

  • Day 1: Explore LEGOLAND Park, including rides, shows, and attractions.

  • Day 2: Spend a day at LEGOLAND Water Park, cooling off in the water attractions.

  • Day 3: Enjoy additional activities at the resort, such as character meet-and-greets, dining experiences, and leisure time at the hotel.

Of course, you can adjust this itinerary based on your family's interests and preferences. Some families may choose to extend their stay to explore the surrounding area or revisit their favorite attractions. Ultimately, the length of your stay should allow you to fully immerse yourself in the magic of LEGOLAND Florida Resort while ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable experience for the whole family.

Should My Family Pay for All Inclusive Package?

I highly recommend the all inclusive package for for those who want to show up at the Legoland resort and not have to worry about unplanned charges.  Depending on your family’s typical meal costs it may save you money to opt for all inclusive.   Breakfast is included for all hotel guests but the all inclusive package includes dinner at the hotel restaurants as well as lunch at the theme park/water park or on resort property.  It includes the Coca-Cola Freestyle Souvenir Cup,  Mini Golf round, and the photo package at the theme park.  The difference in the all inclusive package vs the standard family vacation package is approximately 60 dollars per person.

What are the best Pirate Island Restaurants / Food Options?

Shipwreck Restaurant Review

Shipwreck Restaurant was hands down our favorite restaurant on the Legoland Florida property. Shared style plating works so well for our kids and is so practical for a larger family! There was PLENTY of food but don’t worry its all you can eat so even your hearty eaters will have more than enough! Shipwreck Restaurant boasts a Lego play area for kids to play while waiting for food which is genius! We enjoyed a drink while they played after ordering and I really am wondering why all restaurants don’t do this?!

Legoland Hotel stays include a complimentary free hot breakfast at the Shipwreck Restaurant as well which is a great perk to save money for the whole family before you head to the Legoland Florida theme park. Free breakfast on site saved our family a lot of money and we loved this perk!

Skyline Lounge Review

We also ate at the Skyline Lounge a lot while there. We ordered and took food to eat poolside, grabbed appetizers while the boys were in a class or playing in the castle play area and did a sit down dinner there one night. The food is super kid friendly and it was really fast!

I was most impressed by the food and alcohol prices. They were comparable to what we pay at home for a meal or a drink which I was pleasantly surprised about. We also ordered Instacart to the Legoland hotel for things like snacks and fruit to have on hand. Since we flew to Florida, Instacart was a great option and saved us a bit of money too! If you are driving or want to leave the Legoland property there is a Publix grocery store directly across the street from the Legoland property as well.

Legoland Hotel Pool and Water Slide

Is the pool heated?  Do I need to bring towels and floaties to the pool?

The outdoor pool is heated and was amazing and warm even in December. Floating Legos & big water slide, need I say more? Also they have heated towels and life vests for kids so no need to bring from home! The lifeguards were attentive and friendly.  The zero entry pool is perfect for younger kids.  There are plenty of floating water friendly legos to build with both in the pool and outside.  There are two pools on the Legoland hotel property.

Smores by Fire Pit

Nestled amidst the enchanting ambiance of LEGOLAND Resort, the firepit becomes a focal point for families and friends seeking to unwind and reconnect after a day of exploration and excitement. Here, beneath the canopy of stars, guests of all ages come together to share stories, laughter, and the simple pleasure of crafting the perfect s'more.

We loved ending one of our nights with a Smores kit by the Legoland Hotel pit.  The kit was such a cute add on you can purchase at the lobby desk for 10$ or is included if you opt for the all inclusive deal.  You have everything you need and there is a staff member at the fire pit to help!

Creative Workshop Classes

These 30 minute classes are led by Master Builder staff who walk you through creating a specific Lego set by hand with no paper directions.  The Master Builder workshops are small and my  7 year old was OBSESSED with these. He made a frog, a jet, a dragon and was able to bring them home with us after the class.  The class was really interactive and fun!  The boys loved doing these classes while we were waiting for food to be delivered to the table or before bed.  Creative minds and steam lovers will enjoy signing up and having themed lego creations to take home!

Pontoon Boat Ride

Relax and take in the beautiful scenery on a pontoon boat from the boardwalk right behind the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel! You’ll see some of Florida’s incredible nature and wildlife on the famous Chain of Lakes in the best possible way… from the water at this lakefront resort in Winter Haven! You will need to reserve a ticket and a time slot for the Legoland pontoon boat ride and the tickets are 15$ a person.

Daily Entertainment Offerings

Boys all unanimously agreed the nightly PJ dance party was one of their favorite things of the nightly fun at the Legoland Pirate Hotel resort.  Pack cute PJs for the kiddos and do not miss this! Its the perfect way to dance the wiggles out before crashing into bed after a long and fun filled day.

When you check at the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel you will get a entertainment guide with the daily activities or you can download the app to reference too.  This paper was key during our stay at this amazing Lego hotel to plan out which activities the boys wanted to do and what would be happening in the lobby!  Here is an example of a entertainment guide you will use while at the resort.

The Legoland hotel staff that execute these fun and popular Lego themed ongoing activities all day long.  From games to dancing to scavenger hunts they made every activity engaging and fun for the kids present and adults too.  The boys enjoyed being able to check out the schedule and see which classes they wanted to attend.  There are so many options for entertainment and the schedule changes daily, which makes staying for multiple days even better because your children will experience different things during your multi-day vacation destination.

Lego Character Meet and Greet

As our journey through the world of character appearances at LEGOLAND Resort comes to a close, one thing is abundantly clear: the joy of meeting your favorite LEGO characters is an experience like no other. Whether you're a wide-eyed child meeting your heroes for the first time or a lifelong fan reliving cherished memories, these encounters are sure to leave an indelible mark on your heart.

The boys were so excited to see characters in the lobby and to pose for a photo during our stay. If you miss this in the evening, do not despair there are PLENTY of options to meet Lego mini figures in the theme park throughout the day.

So, fellow adventurers, be sure to keep your eyes peeled and your cameras ready as you explore LEGOLAND Resort. You never know when you might cross paths with a friendly LEGO face eager to make your day a little brighter. Until then, may your adventures be filled with wonder, laughter, and endless opportunities to make magical memories with the beloved characters of LEGOLAND Resort.

Is the Legoland Pirate Island Hotel Somewhere Your Family Would Go Back to?

Absolutely! We are already planning another visit and cannot wait to return.  The Legoland Pirate Island resort has SO much to do that it leaves so much excitement for future visits. There are multiple property options to stay at so your family can always return and stay in a different themed room or right down the street at the Legoland Florida Beach Retreat property.

Traveling with 3 kids isnt easy and sometimes vacations with small kids can be really tough but I can 100% tell you that we had the absolute BEST time at Legoland FL.  I would without hesitation go back tomorrow and cannot wait to return as soon as possible!

As our adventure comes to a close, it's clear that LEGOLAND Pirate Island Hotel is more than just a place to rest your head – it's a destination in itself.
